FAQ

Why was the MetaMask Grants DAO created?
The MetaMask Grants DAO was created to fund projects that add value to the MetaMask ecosystem.
What type of projects are eligible?
Any project that adds value to the MetaMask ecosystem is eligible. We are keeping scope wide to consider as many interesting projects as possible. As the DAO evolves, we may choose to focus on specific, high-priority areas at times.
What is the organizational structure of the MetaMask Grants DAO?
The DAO is made up of three main parts:
  1. Employee-Led DAO - open to all ConsenSys employees. We may explore adding outside partners in the future.
  1. Leadership Committee (mini-DAO) - 7 individuals closely involved with the MetaMask ecosystem who are responsible for finding high-potential projects, creating proposals, communicating what the DAO is doing, and driving improvements.
  1. MultiSig - a 2 out of 3 Gnosis Safe controlled by ConsenSys that will manage the token contract and treasury. It will be responsible for signing transactions for the disbursal of funds, as well as minting/burning tokens as employees join/leave the company.
What types of grants exist?
The DAO’s funding will be split across two types of grants:
  1. Leadership Committee Grants - these grants are allocated exclusively to the Leadership Committee to vote on. Any Leadership Committee member can make a proposal. These are intended to provide a quick, easy mechanism for those most closely tied to the grants operations to ensure that high-quality projects that may be overlooked by the full DAO can be funded.
  1. Full DAO Grants - these grants are allocated for the entire DAO to vote on. Any Leadership Committee member can make a proposal to the Full DAO, and proposals with simple relative majority (more ‘yes’ than ‘no’ votes at closing) will pass. Votes will be open for ten days and the individual proposing the vote will be responsible for making the case and otherwise taking any actions they need to win the vote’s approval.

Who can make a grant proposal?
Leadership Committee members will be responsible for creating grant proposals.
Full DAO members (ConsenSys employees) will have the opportunity to share their thoughts via the employee Slack channel, the employee MMG DAO Notion and through regular meetings.

For further information please visit the Governance page here.
What is the format of grant proposals?
Proposals will initially be “Yes/No” proposals describing the intended recipient, an overview of the project, amount, any milestones, and links to any external documentation and/or additional information. In the future we may consider other types of proposals.
The grant proposal template for Full DAO members (ConsenSys employees) can be found on the internal MMG DAO website. The grant proposal template for external developers can be found here. A completed grant proposal (for Agoric) can be viewed here.
How do potential grantees/partners reach out?
External developers are welcomed to apply for grants to help build out the MetaMask ecosystem by submitting a grant application form here.
We can’t guarantee when we will review your request or that it will get approved, but know that our team will review the application pipeline as often as we can. Thanks for being patient with us.
